The Learn Igbo Now Success Path

The Learn Igbo Now Challenge offers a  progressive learning path which guides you through courses that focus on specific Igbo speaking techniques and skills
(We've used the names of revered masked spirits (mmanwụ) in Igboland  to indicate the different learning paths)

1. Ojiọnụ

You can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases. You can introduce yourself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details.

You can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help. You can read very simple Igbo reader books.

2. Agbọghọ mmụọ

You can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). You can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information. You can describe in simple terms aspects of your background and immediate environment. You are also learning to sing simple Igbo songs and discovering their meanings.

3.  Adamma

You can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. You can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst in Igboland. You can produce simple connected text on familiar topics. You can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans. You know more about Igbo culture, towns, history and Igbo role models.

You can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity, using figurative speech. You can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue. You are familiar with concepts from the Igbo worldview, pre-colonial and colonial Igboland.

5. Agaba

spoken and written sources in a coherent presentation. You can express yourself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely. You have a deep understanding of both material and non material Igbo culture .

Every day you'll have something fun to practice with. You can finish each daily task under 15 minutes. First you listen to or watch the lesson (4 to 8 minute lesson), then you record an audio or video of yourself practicing Igbo with your phone.
Only have time for one or two logins per week? No problem. Easily bookmark any lesson and come back to it later.

Just do it on your time.
